Current Work

In the midst of a global pandemic, I woke one morning and decided to take a giant leap of faith to fulfill a longtime dream. I returned to school. It was time to begin a new creative adventure, in the form and pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts.

Now - with a beginner’s mind and in the seat of a beginning student - I found myself free to explore a new means of self-expression. With my camera as my paintbrush, my background and training in architecture, and a family history and heritage of a mix of photography and fiber arts, I began to explore how I might combine them into an expression of my own.

My first thought was to start small - to make nothing bigger than I might carry. I thought I’d create series of sculpted artist books. But - as I began cutting and folding and sewing parts and pieces of my photographs, a new vision and passion emerged.

Questions arose:

How might I create art that informs the space one inhabits? And how does the space one inhabits inform how one experiences art?

How might I - as the artist - sculpt both the art and the space?

How might I uncover and create abstract expression within a medium that is so often clearly representational in its form?
