The Sound was Silence

August 23, 2015 Marcie Scudder

Not daring to breathe - I stopped to listen. The sound was silence.

The river ran. The leaves rustled. The birds sang their usual song.

I wanted to join them. I wanted to learn from them. I wanted to rest along side them.

I wanted to know how it is that they could sit - so balanced and so perfectly still - in and among the changing tides that ebbed and flowed....and came and went - around them.

I wanted to know what it felt like to be in that in between. Here and there and there and here - while maintaining connection. To the ground. To the sky. To the sound of their heart's beatings.

There were so many questions I would have liked to ask...if I knew that those questions actually had answers.

I waited and watched...and listened.

To  this. To that. To the eternal sound of silence.
