While the others remained standing...she lay still. It had been such a long few months.
The longest - she could ever remember.
The season's first snow had begun to fall. Whatever had been...had been.
Now - it was over.
They would all be moved to the warmth and safety of indoors.
All too soon - winter would be upon us.
She looked at me with those big soft gentle tired eyes.
As if - she knew me.
As if - we'd somewhere met.
Altho..and if so - I couldn't think or remember.
I wondered if she was the calf I'd seen in the early spring?
I wondered if she was the calf's mother? I wondered about her story?
I wondered what it is she knew of mine?
Her gaze was steady...reassuring.
Her breath was deep and slow. I couldn't help but think - how beautiful...how simple.
In the midst of it all - she'd found comfort. She'd found quiet. She'd foundpeace.
She'd given up the fight. She'd surrendered.
It had been such a long few months. The longest - she could ever remember.
